It goes good with beer and the Friday night atmosphere. Of this cross-town bar where the cars all get steered to. And it goes hand-and-hand with my crazy buddies and this three-piece band, An’ the pretty girls and the games we play and the smoke and mirrors: Yeah, troubles come, but they go good with beer.

Well, this probably isn’t what you expected to find when looking for something that went well with beer, but the truth is, a lot of things go good with beer and not just food.

Yes, of course there are the foods that we love to eat that go good with beer. You’ve got your classic beer and pizza combo. Can anything even come close to the taste of an ice cold beer and a hot slice of pizza? For that matter, even a cold slice of pizza and beer is pretty good. For some guys, that’s pure heaven.

Then there’s peanuts and beer. That’s why they sometimes call them beer nuts. You can walk into your corner bar, especially if it’s one of them home town doggie places, if you know what I mean and just ask the bartender for some beer and nuts. He’ll know just what you want. Or, if you’re too lazy to leave the house, just have a jar of those Planters nuts laying around, open up a nice cold brew and have yourself a picnic. For some guys, that’s all they need.

But beer is not just about what you eat with it. Beer can be used as a very useful tool for picking up women. A typical scenario is you’re at a bar, you order your drink and there’s a cute gal sitting two stools over. You turn to her and in your most macho voice you say to her, “Can I buy you a beer?” Now if you were a real sophisticated guy you’d probably ask her if she wanted a drink. But offering her a beer is so much more manly and raw-at-home-boyish.

Then of course there is the beer as used for a prop when playing pool. You’re standing there with your pool cue in your hands while you’re buddy is running the table on you and the last thing you want to do is look like a loser of a dork, so you kind of lean on your cue stick, cock your body to one side, pick up that nice cold long-neck bottle (has to be long-neck) and take a nice, slow, long guzzle. You’ll look so cool, people will think you’re winning.

And finally, beer is just great for sitting in front of the TV and watching your favorite episode of NYPD Blue. Has to be a manly type of program. None of that girl stuff. While you’re doing this, you lean back, spread your arms across the back of the couch and let out a good loud…Well, you get the picture.

Beer. It goes well with just about anything.

How to get bubblier bubbles

If you have ever wondered how bubble blowers can blow such big ones that last for a long time floating in the air, you will be interested to know how this science fair projects sample which teaches you to make bigger and longer-lasting bubbles. The trick here is to add sugar to the detergent solution. You can use plain table sugar, corn syrup or glycerin.

Cool Flame

If you have ever heard of a type of fireworks called ice fountains, you should know that they are based on a technology of producing fire called cool flame. This type of flame gets as hot as 300 to 400 degrees C.

Start with obvious. Look at what’s in plain view. If a cop shine shines his flashlight in your car, what will he see?

You probably need to get rid of those empty beer cans in the back of your truck, leftover from that fishing trip. Or how about that stuff in your ash tray? What about that flask in your golf bag? Look in your glove box, all compartments, under your seats, under the floor mats, and in your trunk. Make sure that anything that could in anyway incriminate you is taken out of the vehicle. Sometimes DUI tricks can be the difference between going to jail, and going home to sleep in your own bed.

How Sugar Makes You Fat

Look at how many grams of sugar are in what you’re eating (on the nutritional label). Now divide that number by 4. That’s how many teaspoons of pure sugar you’re consuming. Kinda scary, huh? Sugar makes you fat and fat-free food isn’t really free of fat. I’ve said it before in multiple articles, but occasionally, I’ve had someone lean over my desk and say “How in the heck does sugar make you fat if there’s no fat in it?”. This article will answer that puzzler, and provide you with some helpful suggestions to achieve not only weight loss success, but improved body health.

First, let’s make some qualifications. Sugar isn’t inherently evil. Your body uses

sugar to survive, and burns sugar to provide you with the energy necessary for life.

Many truly healthy foods are actually broken down to sugar in the body – through

the conversion of long and complex sugars called polysaccharides into short and

simple sugars called monosaccharides, such as glucose. In additions to the

breakdown products of fat and protein, glucose is a great energy source for your

body.

However, there are two ways that sugar can sabotage your body and cause fat

storage. Excess glucose is the first problem, and it involves a very simple concept.

Anytime you have filled your body with more fuel than it actually needs (and this is

very easy to do when eating foods with high sugar content), your liver’s sugar

storage capacity is exceeded. When the liver is maximally full, the excess sugar is

converted by the liver into fatty acids (that’s right – fat!) and returned to the

bloodstream, where is taken throughout your body and stored (that’s right – as fat!)

wherever you tend to store adipose fat cells, including, but not limited to, the

popular regions of the stomach, hips, butt, and breasts.

As an unfortunate bonus, once these regions are full of adipose tissue, the fatty

acids begin to spill over into your organs, like the heart, liver, and kidneys. This

reduces organ ability, raises blood pressure, decreases metabolism, and weakens

the immune system.

Not good!

Excess insulin is the second problem. Insulin is a major hormone in the body, and is

released in high levels anytime you ingest what would be considered a “simple”

carbohydrate, which would include, but not be limited to: fruit juice, white bread,

most “wheat” bread (basically white bread with a little extra fiber), white rice, baked

white potato, bagels, croissants, pretzels, graham crackers, vanilla wafers, waffles,

corn chips, cornflakes, cake, jelly beans, sugary drinks, Gatorade, beer, and

anything that has high fructose corn syrup on the nutritional label.

Two actions occur when the insulin levels are spiked. First, the body’s fat burning

process is shut down so that the sugar that has just been ingested can be

immediately used for energy. Then, insulin takes all that sugar and puts it into your

muscles. Well, not quite! Actually, most of us, except those random Ironman

triathletes and 8000-calories-per-day exercisers, walk around with fairly full energy

stores in the muscles. As soon as the muscles energy stores are full, the excess

sugars are converted to fat and, just like the fatty acids released from the liver,

stored as adipose tissue on our waistline.

But that’s not all. After the blood sugar has been reduced by going into the muscles

or being converted to fat in the liver, the feedback mechanism that tells the body to

stop producing insulin is slightly delayed, so blood sugar levels fall even lower,

below normal measurements. This causes 1) an immediate increase in appetite,

which is usually remedied by eating more food; 2) the production of a stress

hormone called cortisol. Cortisol triggers the release of stored sugar from the liver

to bring blood sugar levels back up, which, combined with the meal you eat from

your appetite increase, begins the entire “fat storage, metabolic decrease” process

over again.

This process of destabilizing blood sugar levels and sending your body on a roller

coaster ride can occur throughout an entire day, week, or month. The excessive

cortisol that accumulates in the body eventually distresses your hormonal system

and results in other problems, including a further decrease in metabolism, obesity,

depression, allergies, immune weakness, chronic fatigue syndrome and other

serious side effects.

So what kind of carbohydrates can you eat to avoid de-stabilizing blood sugar

levels, constantly sabotaging your weight loss, and spending hundreds of thousands

of dollars in health care as you get older? Here is a list of carbohydrates do not

trigger such a strong insulin response and instead provide long-term, stabilized

energy: apples, oranges, pears, plums, grapes, bananas (not overly ripened),

grapefruit, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat spaghetti and egg fettuccine, whole-

wheat pasta, bran cereal, barley, bulgur, basmati, Kashi and other whole grains,

beans, peas (especially chick and black-eyed), lentils, whole corn, sweet potatoes,

yams, milk, yogurt (preferably low-fat or fat-free) and soy. Stay away from

processed and packaged foods as much as possible, because they are highly likely

to include artificial sweeteners (which basically have a similar effect as sugar), as

well as simple and refined sugars. Keep your eye out for ingredients that include

sucrose, maltose, dextrose, fructose, galactose, glucose, arabinose, ribose, xylose,

deoxyribose, lactose, and other fake names for sugars. Even “healthy” juice and

many health food products will need to be avoided if they contain high levels of

sugar.

Men have been known to be very clumsy, lazy and the very utmost stupid most of the time. I, being a man myself have found out that most of the time when the stupid part kicks in, it’s only to be funny. But for other men, it’s an everyday thing to them and they don’t even notice why. So now, you’re asking. Why are men stupid? Well lets take a look behind the scenes.

Well for some men, being stupid is what they strive for. Men like to look tough, and look they have no brains, they think it’s cool. Another reason for men’s stupidity is because it takes them a much longer time to mature than women. Women mature at the age of puberty basically, while men struggling usually don’t mature until the age of 21. That means that all the goofiness, and the stupidity is just a sign that they still have some room to grow to the maturity level that they need to be at.

When men pass the age of 21, the immaturity starts all over again. So really, the only age that men are mature enough to not act like complete fools, and embarrass themselves is 21. Any other age, and you’ll find men looking at dumb comics, and saying stupid things that don’t make sense half of the time. We’re basically apes, we eat, sleep, lay around all day, work if interested, drink beer, and do other things that don’t make sense to women. When men see other men doing stupid stuff, they don’t tell them to stop, they laugh or join in on the stupidity.

Really the only reason that i think men are stupid is because that they don’t know any better. They don’t have the maturity that women and seniors do, so therefore we think of them as simply, stupid. I’m not saying all men are stupid, but the large majority of men, are at least stupid once in their life time.

10 Tips to Keep Psoriasis beneath Control

Psoriasis is a chronic, recurring, non-contagious skin disorder that is characterized by raised, thickened reddish patches on the skin covered with silvery-white scales that may vary in severity and affect any part of the body, including the nails, scalp and the genital region. There are about 125 million psoriasis sufferers world wide. This makes up 3% of the world’s total population! It is estimated that six to seven million Americans have psoriasis, and each year 150,000 to 260,000 new cases are diagnosed.

The incidence of psoriasis is much lower in dark-skinned West Africans and African-Americans than in light-skinned persons of European origin. Incidence is also low in the Eskimos and the Japanese, and is extremely rare in Native Americans. Genetic, geographic and environmental factors may play a major role in this striking disparity between the races.

Most psoriasis patients undergo intense emotional turmoil while they fight to control their disease which tends to have periods of flare ups and remissions the year around. Though no cure has yet been discovered, observing certain principles in life style and skin care management will provide patients a scope for optimum control of the disease. Following are a few tips that would be useful for the psoriasis sufferers:

1. Maintain desirable health habits. Psoriasis flare ups are common when you are weak or tired. Taking a balanced diet while reducing red meats and alcohol will go a long way in helping the skin to maintain a calm milieu interior. Patients should also drink plenty of water and get at least 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every day. Do moderate exercises at least 3-4 times every week.

Remember that good nutrition, rest and exercise tune up your body and mind and keep up the equilibrium which is essential to reduce the psoriasis flare ups. These healthy habits will also reduce the chances of contracting infection, another important factor in psoriasis aggravations.

I always remind my patients that medications have only about 30% role in the management of psoriasis. Rest of the 70% involves lifestyle adjustments.

2. Quit Smoking. Many studies have pointed out that pustular psoriasis of the palms and soles, a variant of psoriasis, is aggravated by smoking. Patients who quit smoking found their lesions clearing up faster. Research also suggests that severity of psoriasis may be linked to smoking. Hence it is highly imperative that you totally give up smoking if you want to get rid of those itchy, scaly, red patches.

3. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol is a trigger for psoriasis. There is no doubt about it. Though some dermatologists allow moderate consumption of alcohol in psoriasis, it is my personal observation that even a small quantity of alcohol (like a glass of wine or beer) does cause flare ups in patients. Hence the verdict is – No Alcohol in any forms!

4. Learn to manage your stress. Stress has long been linked to the induction and exacerbation of all types of psoriasis. As mentioned above, psoriasis can be considered a life style disease (much like hypertension or increased blood pressure), a combination of genetic predisposition and psycho- neuro-immuno-hormonal triggers playing a significant role in the causation, initial triggering and maintenance of the disease.

Psoriatics should try to learn and master any one of the stress management techniques like progressive relaxation, biofeedback, yoga etc. Counselling sessions and psoriasis support group participations will be beneficial for those who find it difficult to relax by themselves. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, stress reduction works best when combined with appropriate medical treatment.

5. Avoid aggravating medications. Certain medications taken for other diseases can aggravate or even precipitate psoriasis. Medications that can trigger psoriasis are:

Anti-malarial drugs like chloroquine
Beta-blockers (medication used to treat high blood pressure) and heart medication.
Corticosteroids. Steroids are double edged swords. They can control severe psoriasis quickly, but sudden withdrawal can cause severe flare ups. Personally I avoid prescribing steroids to my patients unless it is absolutely necessary, that is, psoriasis is severely compromising their quality of life. Only after exhausting other treatment modalities do I take up this group of medications and most patients would do well to steer clear of steroids as a first line of treatment for psoriasis. Even topical steroids should be used very carefully and under medical supervision in psoriasis.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like indomethacin worsen psoriasis in most patients.
Lithium , the antipsychotic drug is a known aggravator of psoriasis.
If you have a family history of psoriasis or you are suffering from the disease, inform your physician if you are taking any of the above drugs. Your doctor may be able to substitute alternate medication.

6. Avoid Scratching, rubbing and picking at the lesions. Any injury to the skin in both involved and uninvolved areas can produce new psoriasis lesions by irritating the basal layer of the skin and switching on the spurting action of the epidermal cells. Research shows that about 50% of people with psoriasis experience the ‘Koebner phenomenon’ – developing a psoriatic lesion at the site of a skin injury. Hence patients should carefully avoid any direct injury to the skin. Scrubbing to remove the scales is a mistake, as this can worsen the disease.

7. Treat any infectious foci at the earliest. Studies show that some infections can trigger psoriasis. Streptococcal throat infections often precedes an outbreak of guttate psoriasis(small drop like lesions), especially in children. Inverse or flexural psoriasis is frequently aggravated by a candidal infection in the folds. Severe generalized psoriasis recalcitrant to treatment is seen in immunodeficient conditions like HIV infection. Treating the infection lessens or clears the psoriasis in most cases. Also look for signs of any infectious foci in your mouth(dental caries), throat(tonsillitis), sinusitis, gall bladder(cholecystitis), urinary bladder(cystitis) etc. Finding and treating these infections could give much better control over your psoriasis status.

8. Treat the disease before it worsens. Most effective way to stop the itching and appearance of new lesions in psoriasis is to treat the psoriasis properly as soon as the lesions appear. Consult your dermatologist at the earliest sign of a break out.

9. Take good care of your skin. Keeping the skin moist and supple is of paramount importance in psoriasis. Any dryness will increase the scaling, flaking and itching which will further aggravate the condition.

Soak in a luke-warm oatmeal bath. This relieves itching and hydrates the skin layers.

Pat your skin dry; do not rub or scrub. See tip number 6 above. Developing a habit of gently patting your skin dry is advisable.

Apply emollients and moisturizers. Emollients soften the skin. Moisturizers lock in the skin’s own moisture to prevent dryness and cracking.
